How to Get Through Airport Security Quickly

Airport security is one of the most stressful aspects of traveling. With constantly changing restrictions and procedures, passing through a TSA checkpoint is even more frustrating than dealing with security elsewhere. Follow these steps to minimize the disruption to your travel schedule, and get through airport security quickly.
First: Know what is and is not allowed
Check with the TSA online to make sure that you know which items are and are not allowed past security. Take care when you pack to leave sharp objects, liquids, gels, weapons, items which resemble weapons and all other prohibited items at home.
Second: Have documents ready
As you approach the security checkpoint, make sure that you have your boarding pass and identification ready to present to the screeners to expedite passage through to the scanning stations. Scope out the scanners as you approach, and choose the shortest line. Avoid lines with families and heavily-laden travelers to move as quickly as possible.
Third: Know procedures and prepare early
As you get in line at the security checkpoint, make sure you and your baggage are ready to pass. If required, place approved liquids in a plastic bag and place it in a bin. Remove shoes, outer clothing and metal accessories, placing them into the bins. Place laptops in bins by themselves. Follow any screener instructions and signage as you approach the checkpoint and while you are waiting in line to avoid delays at the scanner.
Fourth: Reclaim items and move ahead
Once you pass through the scanner, reclaim your baggage quickly and move out of the way to put on your shoes and outer clothing.
