Finding Outside Tours at Your Travel Destination

Part of the purpose of going on vacation is to relax, but many people also go sightseeing while they are on vacation. At most vacation destinations, there are some sights to take in, and you can arrange to see them on your own. However, that involves choosing the sights to see, finding out where they are, figuring out how to get there and determining their hours of operation. Sometimes, it is easier to take a tour and let someone else handle all those details.
Check the welcome center
If you drive to your travel destination, you may see a welcome center. These are usually located as you enter a state. Many welcome centers are stocked with brochures regarding the nearby attractions; among those brochures, you can usually find information regarding tours that take you to various attractions. Pick up any of these brochures that are of interest.
Check at your hotel
Many hotels in popular tourist destinations have tour desks where you can sign up for a variety of tours. If that is not available in your hotel, look for a rack of attraction brochures. If there is one, you may find information about tours there.
Check the local newspapers
It is often possible to pick up local newspapers in grocery stores and various shops in the area you are visiting. Many of these newspapers are meant for tourists, and they include advertisements and coupons for attractions, restaurants and tours. Thus, this is another possible source of tour information.
Check the phone book
Usually there is a phone book in the nightstand of your hotel room. Look in the yellow pages under "Tours" to find the listings and advertisements of local tour companies.
Once you have gathered information about the tours that are available from the various sources, decide which tour(s) take you to the sights in which you are interested and which are the best values. Make your selection, then pick up the phone, and make your reservations.
